From the Podcast
At the end of 2023, Sumo Mainichi got a bunch of sumo podcast geeks together, and we talked about our favorite moments from 2023. The episode features Dave and Amy (Sumo Mainichi), Matt and Sabrina (Sumo Punx), Leslie and Laurie (Sumo Kaboom), and Jake from Grand Sumo Breakdown. If you want to relive the glory that was 2023, listen to that episode here.
I'm so pumped! I discovered sumo this year with a bunch of my college friends. We are in a fantasy league and this tournament has not gone well for me, so this bingo really lifted me up in a time of sumo sadness!

The Pink Legend Who “Knee’ds” No Introduction
There are several sumo promotions that we’re excited about, but this one definitely has us giddy. KOMUSUBI URA.
Whether he goes higher than this rank or this is the top for him, what a FEAT. What a rise back to the top.
Whether you love him because of his reaction to his pink mawashi (thank you NHK) or for his incredible sumo moves (amazing clip from the World Combat Games 2013 featuring young Ura) or for his gymnastic ability (know any other sumo wrestler who can do a flip flop?), he’s one to watch this January.
How will he do? Leave us a comment and let us know.
I've only been watching sumo since January 2022, I saw a random YouTube video and decided to check out sumo and I've been absolutely obsessed since. My favorite rikishi is Hoshoryu, but I have so many others I love.

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!
BINGO CARDS ARE AVAILABLE for the Janurary sumo tournament. Rules and reminders about HOW to play are below.
If you’ve never joined us for BINGO, welcome!
How to PLAY SUMO BINGO:
CLAIM YOUR CARD. (1 per person please)
Watch the January sumo tournament and mark a wrestler when he gets 8 wins (kachi-koshi) and/or 8 losses (make-koshi).
5 across/down/diagonal of the same type is a BINGO (all kachi-koshi or all make-koshi).
When you get a BINGO, email us a photo/screen shot of your completed winning card sumokaboom@gmail.com ASAP. We’ll let you know if you were the first BINGO.
The biggest prizes go to the 1st kachi-koshi and make-koshi BINGO winners, so speed is of the essence. Send in your BINGO fast if you think you might be the winner. But, if you BINGO later, your name goes into a drawing for additional prizes at the end of the basho. SO KEEP PLAYING.
Feel free to share your good fortune with the world over social media, too. Go ahead - share your win!
Reminders
***IMPORTANT*** Your BINGO card is filled with wrestlers who are on the current banzuke. If a wrestler never wrestles in this tournament, it's NOT a make-koshi or kachi-koshi. It's a dead square.
Have fun! A sense of humor is appreciated and will earn you special sumo points and admiration from us. And sometimes a prize!
Play to the end of the basho! Every BINGO enters your name into the drawing for prizes at the end of the basho. We give away 2-4 prizes to folks who BINGO late.
If your wrestler wrestles at least 1 day, his record counts. He might be make-koshi, but he could be JUST the loser you need to win BINGO.
Stay true to your style of sumo bingo! Ganbatte!
